During the autumn, the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment will provide opportunities to participate in the preparation of the report on integration. The first consultation on the role of organisations in the work to promote integration was held on Friday 11 September, and an event for researchers on Monday 14 September. Consultations are part of the inclusive preparation process for the report addressing the need for a reform in integration promotion services.

Earlier this year two workshops were organised, with participants from educational institutions, municipalities and authorities.

- In spring 2020 we organised workshops, and since then we have actively discussed the preparation of the report with representatives from municipalities, ELY Centres and organisations. Those who missed the previous consultations will have an opportunity to participate in the preparation work later this autumn, says Sari Haavisto, Ministerial Adviser at the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment.

First consultation addressed organisations’ role in integration work

A consultation event for representatives of organisations was held on Friday 11 September 2020. At the event, participants discussed the possibilities of giving organisations a bigger role in integration promotion work and in the development of multi-sectoral cooperation. Some 50 organisations working on integration took part in the event. Participants are invited to provide written feedback and comments regarding matters discussed at the event until 21 September. After this, a summary of the feedback and of the discussions will be published on the kotouttaminen.fi website.

Matters discussed at the event for researchers on Monday 14 September 2020 included the labour market position of immigrants, their employment and education paths, health and wellbeing, integration of families, inclusion, and good relations between population groups.

More information on opportunities to participate in preparations later will be provided separately to the interest groups and target groups.

According to the Government Programme, the Government will prepare a comprehensive action plan on the need to reform integration measures based on the report of the Audit Committee approved by Parliament. The action plan will be submitted to Parliament in February 2021 in the form of a report addressing the need for a reform in integration promotion services. The report has been jointly prepared with key stakeholders.
