For five years, the Centre of Expertise in Immigrant Integration and integration.fi have provided news on current topics, statistics, studies and other support for various parties and professionals involved in the integration of immigrants. It is now time to modernise the structure and content of the website – a service offered by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment – and make it more compatible with present and future needs. Please answer the survey and help us build better services at integration.fi. You can also let us know if you would like to participate in a website development workshop.

Paula Karjalainen ja Jaana Suokonautio aluekierroksella 2013The Centre of Expertise in Immigrant Integration, which works under the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment, was established on 21 March 2014. At the same time, the integration.fi website was launched. The Centre of Expertise is a unit employing five senior specialists. Ministerial Adviser Paula Karjalainen is responsible for the Centre’s management and operational development.

In connection with the preparatory work for the Centre of Expertise in Immigrant Integration, a series of regional meetings were held in autumn 2013 to identify the best ways for the Centre to support work carried out in different regions. Continuity is a key requirement for the Centre’s work, as is the continuous development of the integration.fi website. To reach the best results, cooperation with our partners and online service users is necessary, Karjalainen says.

The integration.fi website provides access to the Act on the Promotion of Immigration Integration and to the Refugee reception manual.  The service was updated in connection with a platform transfer, and over the years a large amount of materials from forms and statistics to handbooks for the representatives of underage children have been stored in the service. The structure and content of the integration.fi website will now be modernised and updated to better meet the users’ needs. Some of the modernisation work will be completed in 2019, while other improvements require more time. Accessibility requirements will also be taken into account, and general usability will be improved.

The integration.fi website is a frequently used online service, which is why we want to invest in its development.  We are exploring opportunities to build a search and reporting function on the site for best practices in immigration and in the integration of immigrants. Several requests for such functionality have been made.
