Immigrants in Central Finland
At the end of 2015, the total population of Central Finland was 275,780, of whom 7,843, or 2.8%, were foreign-language speakers. About 2.4% of all foreign-language speakers in Finland live in Central Finland. As some of the immigrants have received Finnish citizenship, the proportion of foreign-language speakers describes the number of immigrants better than foreign citizenship. The most common foreign languages spoken in Central Finland are Russian, Estonian, English, Persian and Thai.
In addition to Jyväskylä, immigration in Central Finland has to some extent concentrated to Jämsä, Äänekoski and Laukaa. Of the 137,368 residents in the City of Jyväskylä, 6,081were foreign-language speakers at the end of 2015, accounting for 4.4% of all residents.
